About the Workshop |
|
|

Why do so many BI projects
not deliver expected returns? How come many carefully taken decisions are
only partially implemented? Is your investment in quality information and
systems paying off? Beyond data and BI tools, decision-making is all about
people. People working together to understand needs, agree outcomes and
take realistic action. That’s the goal of this workshop: to give
participants the knowledge and tools to collaborate creatively in
decision-making.
Studies
in neuroscience, psychology and behavioural science have shown that all our
interactions are heavily influenced by prior uncomfortable experience,
especially in times of stress. Our minds jump instantly and unconsciously
to those previous occurrences, assume the worst outcome and immediately
resort to our old adaptations—withdrawal, aggression, submissiveness and
projection. These problem-based behaviours are key barriers to your
success.
What if
this workshop eliminates your resistance and enables potent innovation in
your workplace? What if your ability to work towards win-win solutions
increases dramatically? What if your creativity expands as you allow
yourself to embrace genuine cooperation and realistic risk?
Dr.
Barry Devlin and Ingrid Hoffman teach and demonstrate simple and powerful
techniques to dramatically shift your interactions from past adaptations to
positive and realistic behaviours. You will be encouraged and coached
within the workshop to dialogue safely, hear accurately and reduce
frustration so you can begin to reap the benefits immediately when you
return to the office. Outcomes include:
|
> |
Clearer communication of
often competing needs |
|
> |
Improved relationships both
between peers and across organisational levels and boundaries |
|
> |
Approaches to dissolve
conflict and defuse adversarial behaviour |
|
> |
Creating a decision-making
environment that is emotionally safe and conducive to creativity |
|
> |
Enabling you to improve
morale and common commitment to decisions taken |
This will be a hands-on workshop, combining traditional teaching with
experiential learning to allow you to apply new dialoguing techniques
immediately on your return to the office. |

About your Workshop Leader |
|
|
Dr.
Barry Devlin is a founder of the data warehouse industry and among the
foremost authorities and innovators on business intelligence and insight. He
is a widely respected consultant, speaker and author of the seminal book,
“Data Warehouse—from Architecture to Implementation.” With a Ph.D. in
physical chemistry, Irish-born Barry has almost 30 years of experience in the
IT industry, mostly with IBM, as an architect, consultant, manager and
software evangelist. He continues to define and discover novel solutions to
real business needs. Over the past decade, Barry has also focused
increasingly on techniques for growing personal development and
relationships in business. He is founder and principal of 9sight Consulting
since January 2008.
Born in South Africa, Ingrid Hoffman graduated from Rhodes University (B.
Journ) and University of Natal (HED) and is a trained Imago Relationship
facilitator. She worked for 15 years as a journalist and editor in print and
electronic media. Following this, she set up her own business first as owner
and manager of a Spar franchise and then in the conception and marketing of
a new flashlight manufacturing startup. Since the mid-’90s, Ingrid has
developed a counselling business focused on personal and relationship
development and is described as an “an empathetic and gifted facilitator and
teacher.” She is a director of 9sight Consulting.
As life and business partners since 2005, Ingrid and Barry together have
developed and delivered personal and relationship development workshops and
mentoring programmes in Europe and South Africa. They teach listening and
communication skills that create a climate of cooperation in the workplace,
enabling increased human connectedness with fellow workers in a safe,
energized and creative work environment. Outcomes include reduced stress,
improved innovation and better decision-making. This Imago-based approach
expands and complements the more IT-focused architectural and organizational
work already pioneered by 9sight Consulting. |
