eThikwini
city manager Michael Sutcliffe is the Business Connexion
and CSSA IT Person of the Year 2005.
The annual awards were presented in Durban last week.
Sutcliffe is credited with playing a leading role in making
eThikwini a ‘smart city'. His commitment to open source has driven
key decisions, such as entering into an institutional partnership
with SmartXchange, instead of opting for a packaged enterprise
resource planning system, say the organisers. Sutcliffe also aims
to ensure wireless connectivity for the entire city.
This year, the CSSA also named a KwaZulu-Natal IT Company of
the Year. Durban-based SmartXchange, a “technology innovation
node” and young business incubation centre, was named this year's
winner.
