ITWeb’s Security Summit 2010 is THE South African event of choice in the information security space!

Call for papers
Deadline for submissions: Friday 11 December 2009

PRESENTATION FOCUS AREAS

This year we are looking for presentations that address the following topics under our three track areas. The list of topics is suggestive of the types of presentations for consideration, but by no means restrictive to these specific areas.

Please note that preference will be given to case studies. Presentations with a marketing or product bias will be considered but only for the vendor track.

1. Management Track - How to manage the business of security
  • Big Brother - 1984 vs. now. Privacy is dead? Personal freedoms in an
  ephemeral age
• Secure development maturity models
• Managing security in federated environments such as government
• Psychology of risk
• Compliance: PCI, security management, standards, regulation
• Cyber warfare and cyber terror
• Vulnerability management
• Managing the insider threat in complex environments
• Security data in South Africa - incidents, fraud, vulnerabilities, breaches, etc.
• The 'New School' - security and economics, psychology, metrics, etc
• The Turing Test - knowing who's 'real' on the Internet
• Attack methodologies - what’s new and how do we defend ourselves?
• Developing security skills and awareness

2. Technical track – Key threats and how to respond
  • Personal online security: the evolution of malware and trojans
• Security impact of Web 2.0 and social networks
• Security in the Cloud
• Mobile/Wireless security
• Communications security - security on GSM, satellites, backbone networks and broadcast media
• Uses and failings of cryptography and crypto systems
• SCADA systems and critical infrastructure
• RFID security - uses and flaws
• Security in virtualised environments
• Web application security
• SSL is dead. Long live SSL
• Security in software development

3. Vendor track - The latest solutions demonstrated
  • Windows 7 and OSX Snow Leopard
• New warfare technologies: UAV, drones, robotics, etc.
• Industrial espionage: laser tapping of conversations, bugging cellphones, tracking individuals, etc.
• Security below the OS - BIOS, embedded devices, CPU, Kernel rootkits,
Ring 0 Trojans, virtualisation rootkits

As the number of presentations is limited and the interest to present at this conference is very high, please submit your proposal as soon as possible to maximise your chance of being accepted. Please note that preference will be given to end-user case studies or joint vendor/user presentations.
SPEAKER APPLICATION

> Presentation descriptions should be no more than 200 words. Please indicate which theme and topic you are submitting your summary for.
> The presentation description will be used by the speaker selection committee for selection purposes and, if selected, an edited version of this text will be used in the conference programme.
> As the conference approaches, we will request additional information about your proposal as deemed necessary.
> Prior to the event you may be contacted by one of the ITWeb journalists for comment. Please make time to respond to any questions they have for you.
SPEAKER SELECTION PROCESS

> Selection of papers will be made by the speaker selection committee, which includes industry association representatives and ITWeb. The committee’s decision is final.
> Speakers will be selected on the basis of subject interest, topicality, relevance to the above themes and topics, speaker experience and the quality of the abstract submitted.
> The speaker selection committee will review the proposals and send acceptance notifications to the speakers by 16 January 2010.
> Presentations with a marketing, vendor or product bias will be considered but only for the vendor track in the exhibition area.
