| Intel to push wireless USB roll-out |

Intel is to accelerate the deployment of its certified wireless USB device into homes and offices.The device will enable wireless communications to high-speed interconnects for multimedia consumer electronics and mobile devices, Jeff Ravencraft, Intel technology strategist and USB Implementers' Forum president and chairman, told delegates at the Intel Developers' Forum in San Francisco this week.The company is developing a wireless host controller interface (WHCI) specification with the support of several industry players, said Ravencraft.The WHCI specification will provide a standardised method for hardware-software communication, which will accelerate time-to-market for certified wireless USB products, he said, allowing the industry to deliver interoperable products in 2006.Intel has opened an Interoperability Lab, focusing on certified wireless USB and WiMedia Alliance UWB, MAC and PHY specifications, Ravencraft announced.This facility provides an environment where companies can conduct initial testing on products for both Certified Wireless USB and WiMedia Alliance industry technologies at the same time, he explained. This will assist in ensuring interoperability between products before they reach the compliance programme offered by the USB Implementers' Forum, he said.
