Contractors are safe, says SITA
AUDRA MAHLONG [Wednesday, January 27, 2010]

Annie: Contractors at Sita may be safe - but only if you play ball.... [28 Jan 2010]

In my opinion the article is rather one sided, only reflecting the few positive comments made by the Sita representative. Not conveying any of the "less" positive comments made or the implications that Sita's pre-mature implementation of “banning” labour brokers in their environment could have on a huge amount of IT professionals. The fact for example that Sita contractors may not have jobs by 1 April, in the event that they do not accept permanent employment or a fixed term agreement with Sita is apparently not important enough to mention. Sita holds all the trump cards and the contractors and labour broking houses are expected to accept the little scraps thrown at them. No indication was given as to the term or period of the fixed term contracts or if the permanent employment packages would at least be in line with the resource's current income as contractor. Fair enough - contractors may perhaps have jobs on the 1st of April, but they may also be worse off financially than at present. The % Sita currently pays to labour brokers will not be added to the contractor's package or term rate of that you can be assured. So how does these conversions then place the contractor in a better position at all - seeing that labour brokers are allegedly exploiting them? How will this constitute aligning with Government legislation in the long run? Sugar coating and ignoring all the negative suggested or implied comments made also during the session by the Sita representative won't help anyone.

SAPS to invest R700m in tech
AUDRA MAHLONG [Thursday, September 17, 2009]

Vertical: Here we go again... [17 Sep 2009]

Ooohh... here we go again! 700 000 000 Rand to the one that can deliver me the most proprietary, closed, unmanageble system by using R7 000 000 to build it and the rest to get everyone trips to international conferences, holidays, new cars, houses and more. And when its finally delivered and fails miserably, everyone one will be scratching their heads wondering how R700 000 000 could be spent on something a small company with dynamic resources and good supply chain management could have done for a tenth of the price.

Oh and dont forget that most of these tenders will be won by the drinking buddies of the people who awards them, so there is no point to actually tender for this little gravy express, cos the face ain't listening!

Vertical: PS. Here we go again... [17 Sep 2009]

And btw... Thank You for spending my hard earned tax money on making an already unmotivated, lazy bunch of blue suit slueths even lazier by giving them little shiny things with buttons to do their job for them.

Parliament impatient with interconnection
PAUL VECCHIATTO [Wednesday, September 16, 2009]

Ed Runhar: Too little too late [17 Sep 2009]

OK let's get this straight. ICASA has never been for the high interconnect rates? So why then did they sanction the rates in the first place? Then there is the cosyness between ICASA and the operators. Paris Mashile has always been a common sight at both public and private functions paid for by the institutions he was mandated to regulate.

Then, the DOC and Portfolion Committee members are either on Mandrax or previously comatose. We have been complaining about high interconnect rates for close tohalf a decade and it is only now that they 'woke' up and smelt the garbage.

Lastly, to Allan Knott-Craig. You profiteered at the helm of Vodacom. You were arrogant litigous and obtrusive whenever the 'holy grail' (read Interconnect) was under threat. I now see that you have had your 'road to Damascus' experience and become the crusader of moral integrity regarding interconnect. I think you need to concentrate on photography as youhad stated when you retired. We do not need your belated input now. You had your chance and messed up. Buy a Land Rover and head for the bushes. Please.

CROWFOOT: GO BOYS GO [16 Sep 2009]

Yes about time that these fat cats get what they deserve. What I can bet will come in from the operators in their “defense” is that they use part of the 125c as subsidies on your new cell phone. HOG WASH! The subsidy equates to about 0.7c per interconnection fee, depending on how much you call. If you call more that drops even further. GO BOYS GO!!

Telkom heeds calls for convergence
AUDRA MAHLONG [Wednesday, September 16, 2009]

Vertical: Bleh [16 Sep 2009]

I have an idea. Why does'nt the competition steal the local loop from Telkom in the same way Telkom stole it from the public in the mid 90's. In that way, Telkom wont have to welcome "competition" that has to build infrastructure comparible to two decades worth of investment, which it (Telkom) received on a silver platter.

Or how about my fellow South Africans joining me in convincing ICASA that yes you actually have to enforce the "unbundling of the local loop" sometime this century.

Bleh to all of you suit and tie phoneys.

Reduce risk, lower TCO with ProfitBase 2009
[Wednesday, September 16, 2009]

JS: Speed is not all that counts [16 Sep 2009]

Very often it is not time to delivery that counts, but rather time to delivery of a complete and correct Enterprise Data Warehouse that counts. Each business is unique and a one size fits all DWHS does not always work in all cases.

Short-term gains undermine long-term cost of using refurbished printer cartridges
NEIL ROM [Wednesday, September 16, 2009]

john: Replacement cartridges cost too much [16 Sep 2009]

but if a luxury car owner that needed to refill his fuel tank with R500 worth of fuel was told he need to pay R10,000 each time for a new fuel tank he would be annoyed!

It is a well known fact that printer companies make more from refills than from the original printer

SITA faces corrupt reality
AUDRA MAHLONG [Tuesday, September 15, 2009]

nkosi: SITA's woes [16 Sep 2009]

SITA has been on a downhill slide since Mavuso left. The management of SITA is not strong enough to keep it on the straight and narrow. It has outlived it's potential usefulness because of constant political interference. Bye bye SITA!

Ex Sita Boy: Why is Calvin Kekana still suspended and not Fired? [16 Sep 2009]

Why has nobody asked what is happening to Mr Calvin Kekana? Why is he suspended and not in jail? The facts have been on the table for some now and SITA does nothing to the corrupt individual! His Company MoBE is still on Sita preferred Supplier List and he is still reeling in the "thank you`s" from all his mates. Why was Moses and Calvin with a highly placed Politician meeting in Polokwane (Die Deck to be precise) - to try and cancel his disissal or covering up so that SAPS do not get involved? This buddy thing must stop and the lot should, using the reports available, jailed!!! How many more times is the hearing going to be postponed? ITWEB get involved - it is a saucy story that even City Press will use for Sunday Headlines.
