DRM Solution
[ BY NISAAR ALLY, 24 Jul 2005 ]
We think that DRM will play an important role in the mobile industry and operators that sell digital content need to ensure that they have DRM in place. The solution we have chosen and Internationally accepted by content producers are Encrypting the Digital content prior to sending the content.

It will be interesting to see how the operators in SA take this on and ensure that their WEB / WAP and Digital Content are DRM secured. You may contact us on nisaar@fantastic1.co.za
if you interested in encrypting all your digital content.

DRM is not a solution
[ BY SHAUN DEWBERRY, 25 Jul 2005 ] — When I purchase digital media, I expect to take ownership of that media. I want to be able to move it where I will, time-shift it as I please, use it on any device I want to and keep it for as long as I desire. I do not want my fair use rights to be crippled.

In other words, DRM is not a solution for my needs.

Encrypting the content? Why bother? They encrypted DVDs - now cracked. They encrypted Apple iTunes music downloads - now cracked. They encrypted Windows XP install keys - now cracked.

Rather examine your target market more carefully - people buy pirated DVDs, people copy music, people copy software. Why? Because people want control of their lives, they don`t want a `Rights Managed Media Existence` to be dictated to them.

People also don`t want to be ripped off. By adding a layer of DRM you are simply increasing the cost of creating the content while detracting from its value.
