Yahoo adopts Macromedia streaming video solution
ISSUED BY: PR CONNECTIONS
[Johannesburg, 27 November 2002] - Global Internet company, Yahoo, has integrated Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX into SBC Yahoo DSL, a broadband service developed through an alliance between Yahoo and SBC Communications.

"SBC Yahoo DSL is an Internet service that delivers an entirely new kind of broadband experience, SBC Yahoo DSL while using Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX to deliver streaming video news and movie trailers on-demand," says Jeremy Matthews, managing director of local Macromedia distributor, Dax Data.

"Subscribers have the ability to experience the rich multimedia content made possible by Macromedia's technology directly from the SBC Yahoo DSL homepage," he continues. "The front page, which contains news stories that are handpicked by editors and updated throughout the day, includes an embedded multimedia window that displays streaming on-demand video clips accompanying select features, breaking news stories and entertainment, health, lifestyle, sports and finance news."

Video content is provided by Reuters, the Associated Press, AccuWeather.com, and Yahoo's entertainment properties, including movie trailers and celebrity interviews from Yahoo Movies and Yahoo TV, as well as music videos and exclusive artist interviews from LAUNCH, Your Yahoo Music Experience.

"By integrating Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX into SBC Yahoo DSL, members can have instant access to streaming content with very little buffering and without having to open a separate media player," says Matthews.

Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX combines powerful communication capabilities including streaming media, rich media messaging, and real-time collaboration.

"Streaming media features let developers integrate streaming video and audio with motion graphics in a customisable player environment for a new level of multimedia presentation on the Internet," says Matthews.

With rich media messaging features such as multi-way, multi-user video and audio chats, developers can add engaging live, human interactions and instant messaging to their Web sites. Furthermore, the real-time collaboration features, including the powerful Shared Object technology, enable multiple users to share live white boards and other real-time data in the context of an application.

"With the use of Flash Communication Server MX, SBC Yahoo DSL can now deliver an unsurpassed online experience, with new levels of personalisation and ease-of-use, rich content, superior interactivity, and a bundle of valuable premium services," concludes Matthews.
